UPDATE: Work to restart production at Ford plants delayed

Around 200 workers at the Ford engine plants in Windsor who were expecting to return to work this week, will have to wait a little longer.

The employees were slated to head back to the factories on Monday to prepare the line for the restart of production, which could have been as early as next month. However, Unifor Local 200 President John D'Agnolo has told BlackburnNews.com he received a call from the company Friday that there will be a delay due to the threat of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. states of Michigan and Ohio, where the Windsor plants send their manufactured product, have decided to extend social distancing measures.

D'Agnolo said, as a result, he is not sure when production will resume, but he has a meeting later in the week with company officials.

The Essex Engine Plant and the Windsor Annex shut down production and laid off 1,600 workers on March 20 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some workers were recalled earlier this month to make face shields for front-line workers.  That work will continue.
