Assessment centre opening at Erie Shores Healthcare

A COVID-19 assessment centre is opening for Essex County residents at Erie Shores HealthCare on Thursday.

The centre will be open from 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., seven days a week for those who meet the requirements for testing.

Those who are showing symptoms who are residents or staff at long-term care homes, healthcare workers, patients in the hospital with respiratory symptoms, travellers, members of rural and Indigenous communities, those with co-morbidities, and paramedics will get priority. Priority will also be placed on new admissions and staff at long-term care homes.

Before testing, patients will be assessed to make sure they meet the testing criteria.

The COVID-19 assessment centre is at the ambulatory clinic entrance off of Fader Street. It is a segregated area next to the ESHC emergency department. There will be no access to the main hospital.

“The COVID 19 assessment center will keep symptomatic patients out of the Emergency Department so that the hospital can remain focused on the highest acute care needs of this community,” said Dr. Ross Moncur, Chief of Staff.
