Ford making face shields for workers on the frontline

Although Ford has suspended its auto manufacturing production indefinitely, the floor of its plants in Windsor is not quiet.

Monday, the company announced it had begun production at its Windsor facility on face shields for workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Ford of Canada has a long history of supporting Canada and its communities in times of need," said Ford Motor Company of Canada President and CEO Dean Stoneley. "By repurposing our production facilities in Windsor to meet the urgent demand for face shields, we can help protect the lives of our heroic healthcare professionals and first responders."

Shipments across Ontario and Canada will start this week.

Ford also said it is working with government, health officials and Unifor to ensure safety protocols are followed to protect workers and their families.

The company said it continues to explore ways it can help the effort to fight the pandemic and will provide updates on other special projects.

Ford and its employees also donated 2,900 pairs of nitrile gloves to hospitals.
