VIA Rail workers test positive for COVID-19

One of two workers at VIA Rail who tested positive for COVID-19 worked on a train in the Quebec City to Windsor corridor.

The rail carrier announced the two confirmed cases Sunday and said they have not been at work since they started to develop symptoms last month.

The employee who worked on the train has been at home since March 15, while the other employee who works at the ticket office in Montreal has been off since March 22.

"The health and safety of our employees is our number one priority," said VIA Rail in a release. "We immediately took the appropriate measures. We remain in close communication with our employees and are providing all the support they need to recover in the best possible conditions."

The carrier did not explicitly say where on the Quebec City to Windsor corridor the employee worked.

It also said it is adjusting its operations as a result of the pandemic by deploying strict sanitary measures on trains, at its stations, maintenance centres, and call centres.
