Province and union representing public high school teachers resume talks

Bargaining teams from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) and the Ontario government will resume negotiations, but they will not be meeting face-to-face.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two sides will meet remotely.

Of the four prominent teachers' unions, OSSTF is the only one that has not reached a tentative deal with the province.

The Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens announced a tentative deal on Monday, and agreements have also been reached with the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association.

Catholic teachers in Windsor-Essex will vote on the deal on April 7 and 8.

The last time the two bargaining teams met was in December.

Sticking points in talks include online learning and supports for special needs students.

All four unions have held a series of targeted and province-wide walkouts to protest proposed funding cuts to education.
