A 46-year-old Windsor man is wanted on a variety of charges stemming from a standoff near downtown Thursday.
Officers responded to a home in the area Mercer Street and Elliott Street East around 10 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge said the suspect allegedly threatened several people with a firearm inside the Mercer Street home, then went to a home on Elliott Street East. According to police, there was a confrontation and the victim was shot.
Investigators were told that a suspect was inside the Mercer Street home. Officers contained the area and it was eventually learned that the suspect was not there. The scene was reopened to the public around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
The whereabouts of the suspect, John Elliott, are unknown. He is facing several charges, including attempted murder.
Elliott (pictured above) was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a red t-shirt, green camouflage pants and a black military-style helmet. Police say he may be operating a dark coloured e-bike. He is described as a black male, 5'6", weighing about 140 pounds.
If you recognize the suspect, do not approach him yourself as he is considered armed and dangerous. Call 911 immediately.
