SIU mandate invoked in Leamington robbery

Ontario's law-enforcement oversight agency has invoked its mandate in the arrest of a 42-year-old man for a break-and-enter.

The Ontario Provincial Police said it happened around 7 a.m. Thursday at a business on Talbot Street West near Erie Shores Healthcare. Members of the OPP Leamington detachment responded to the call and found one suspect being detained by employees. Another suspect ran from the scene.

Jimmy Elias Jr. of Leamington has been charged with break-and-enter, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen property under $5,000. These charges have yet to be proven in court.

The suspect was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the arrest. With that, the OPP has contacted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate.

The second suspect remains at-large.

Anyone with information on this incident should direct their inquiry to the SIU at (416) 622-2342 or visit its official website.
