City of Windsor defers property tax payments

Windsor City Council is offering some property tax relief amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Payment on the third instalment of property taxes has been deferred from April 15 to June 30, 2020.  There will be no late charges, penalties, or interest collected during this time period.

“Beyond the global headlines and international economic ramifications are individuals families and businesses in Windsor who are facing an uncertain few weeks or months as a result of this virus,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “As we fight daily to ‘flatten the curve’ in our community, I’m focused on delivering relief to taxpayers who need a hand during this challenging time.”

Any resident or business owner who has set up pre-authorized payments or given post-dated cheques will be required to contact the city tax department by email (propertytax@citywindsor.ca)  if they wish to cancel or change the payment in any way.

In addition, the city has committed to waiving the $50 fee for non-sufficient funds if an automatic payment is taken from an account with insufficient funds during that time period.
