Police warn failing to comply with government order could result in charges

The Windsor Police Service says it will enforce the government’s order of the mandatory closure of all non-essential workplaces if necessary.

The service said it will work with workplaces to gain compliance and will apply discretion whether to launch any enforcement actions.

The police encourage everyone to voluntarily comply with all of these short-term restrictions.

Failure to comply with the order could result in a number of offences under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act:

  • Failing to comply with an order made during a declared emergency - Set fine $750
  • Obstruct of a person exercising a power in accordance with an emergency order - Set fine $1,000
  • Corporations - Set fine $500,000
A government list of essential workplaces is available here.
