Ministry confirms case of COVID-19 at Windsor jail

A positive case of the novel coronavirus has been confirmed at the Southwest Detention Centre in Windsor.

The case was found in a contractor at the jail. A memo shared on Facebook by Ward 4 Essex Councillor Sherry Bondy says the worker, who is from Chatham began showing symptoms on March 14 and was advised to self-isolate by Chatham-Kent Public Health. (CKPH)

On March 18, the ministry was notified that the contractor is considered to be 'presumptive positive' for COVID-19, the ministry has now updated it to a confirmed case. Anyone who may have had contact with the worker will be contacted by CKPH.

The memo also states that all areas the contractor may have been in contact with have been thoroughly cleaned, and that going forward, deep cleaning protocols have been updated.
