Health unit orders closure of all retail

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is strongly recommending all non-essential facilities close immediately.

Come Monday, the Medical Officer of Health will order all retail stores including those selling clothing and apparel, books and home decor to close. Personal service settings like hair salons, spas, tattoo parlours and nail salons will also be ordered to close.

“In order to strengthen the measures that are put in place to reinforce social distancing and limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we must act together and close these non-essential stores and businesses until April 5th, 2020,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health.

The health unit and local law enforcement issued a number of citations to bars and restaurants Tuesday when they did not follow orders to close on St. Patrick's Day. All restaurants were ordered to close except for take-out and delivery on Monday evening.
