UPDATES: COVID-19 leads to more cancellations in Essex County

Local municipalities, organizations, and facilities are heeding the advice of public health guidelines and cancelling programs or closing facilities.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has decided to cancel all March Break events.

“We want to ensure we are doing our part to slow the spread of this virus, limit public interactions and maintain the health and safety of people in our community and our staff,” said Danielle Breault Stuebing, ERCA’s Director of Communications & Outreach. “We are carefully monitoring the situation and will advise of future event cancellations should they become necessary.”

The City of Windsor is closing all arenas, pools, museums and community centres until April 6.

The Town of Essex has cancelled all upcoming public skates and swims until further notice.  The town has also decided to close its recreation facilities and cancelled all upcoming programs and rental bookings. The closures and cancellations in Essex are tentatively scheduled to be in effect until Monday, April 6.

In the Town of LaSalle, the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex is closed until at least April 5.  All Town of LaSalle March Break camps, programs, rentals and drop-in activities at the Vollmer Complex are cancelled. In addition, the Riverdance Community Centre will be closed until at least April 5, and all rentals are cancelled. Any municipal programs and rentals scheduled at the local schools are also cancelled.

The Municipality of Leamington will close the Kinsmen Recreation Complex. All recreation programming including March Break Day Camp has been cancelled indefinitely. The only municipal facility that will remain open to the public is the Leamington Municipal Building located at 111 Erie Street North.

The Town of Lakeshore will close the Atlas Tube Centre, the Comber Community Centre and the Libro Community Centre and suspend all recreational programs until at least April 6.

The Town of Tecumseh says Tecumseh Arena remains open with March Break programming still being offered. Attendance control measures will be put in place during public skating to limit the number of attendees to 250 or less at a time.

In the Town of Kingsville, all recreational programs, ice rentals and private events will be cancelled. Weddings booked at Town facilities will be permitted, however attendance will be subject to a maximum of 250 people.

The Canadian Historical Aircraft Association has decided to close its facility and cancel all programs until March 28, 2020.

The Windsor Symphony Orchestra has cancelled all events from Saturday, March 14 through Tuesday, March 31, 2020, in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus. This includes programming presented by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Youth Orchestras, Community Orchestra, and Chorus, both onsite and offsite locations.  The performance of the Tepperman Masterworks Sibelius & Marimba will continue without an audience and will be live-streamed on the WSO's Facebook page.  Affected ticket holders can choose to donate the ticket value or receive a voucher.
