WAP third shift extended two weeks

The third shift at the Windsor Assembly Plant has been put off for two weeks.

Officials at Unifor Local 444 were told by the company that the third shift will not be eliminated until July 13, 2020. The last date was June 29, 2020.

"Any extension we get is welcome in our books. It keeps people working, earning wages and gives us more time to try to come to a resolve on this," said Manny Cardoso, vice president of Unifor Local 444.

This is actually the fifth time the elimination of the shift has been put off. Employees were told nearly a year ago to expect the loss of the shift in September 2019.

"As far as the floor is concerned, there is a lot of frustration. Our junior members are wondering what's happening, their lives are in the balance, and they're hanging by a thread, it's probably unsettling for them," said Cardoso.

The elimination of the shift will affect around 1,500 workers.
