More Thursday night closures coming to the tunnel

Commuters to Detroit will have to endure Thursday night tunnel closures a little longer.

The Windsor-Detroit Tunnel has added additional overnight closures as it completes a massive roof restoration project. Starting this Thursday, the tunnel will close completely to traffic at 9 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. Friday. With the exception of April 9, the Thursday before Easter, these weekly closures will happen through April 30.

The closures mean there will be some changes to the Transit Windsor tunnel bus route. During the Thursday shutdowns, the regular tunnel bus to Detroit will leave the Windsor International Transit Terminal at 8 p.m. The last regular bus will leave Detroit from the Mariners Church stop at 8:39 p.m.

On special event runs, such as Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, or Tigers games, the tunnel bus will take passengers to the event, then return via the Ambassador Bridge. Passengers attending an event in Detroit are strongly urged to proceed directly to the bus stop at the end of the event.

Complete information on the tunnel bus can be found at the official Transit Windsor website, while updates on the tunnel are at its official site.
