Here's what's open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Family Day

Monday is the day Ontarians celebrate the family, which means many people will have the day off and some businesses and agencies will be closed.

Family Day is a statutory holiday in Ontario, which means some establishments are closed or on abbreviated hours.

All provincial and municipal offices are closed Monday, including ServiceOntario offices, though certain transactions can still be performed online.

All Beer Store and LCBO locations are closed Family Day. The same goes for all of the major school boards, the University of Windsor and St. Clair College, with classes resuming Tuesday.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library and Essex County Library are closed Monday. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday.

Devonshire Mall is open Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tecumseh Mall is open from noon to 5 p.m., and Windsor Crossing outlet mall is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some chain restaurants and big-box stores are closed or on restricted hours Family Day. Be sure to phone ahead to your favourite location to avoid a wasted trip.

The 311 call centre is closed, but the 211 service line will be open 24 hours as usual Monday.

Residential garbage and recyclable collection in the city of Windsor will be delayed one day due to the holiday. The weekly recyclable collection is not affected. Commercial garbage collection usually scheduled for Monday will take place. The public drop-off depot on Central Ave and E.C. Row is closed Family Day with regular hours resuming Tuesday.

There is no parking enforcement in Windsor on Monday. Metered street spaces are free but parking garages are open and paid as usual. The city’s parking payment offices are closed, but payments will still be taken online.

All community centres, customer care centres and most arenas in Windsor are closed Monday except for previously-scheduled rentals. The lone exception is the WFCU Centre, which will offer swimming at regular admission rates and a free Windsor Express basketball game, with a ticket required. The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Transit Windsor buses will run on Sunday-holiday schedules. Despite President's Day being celebrated in the U.S., the tunnel bus to Detroit will operate on a regular weekday schedule. Transit Windsor’s customer service office downtown will be open Family Day from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., though the sales office on North Service Rd East is closed.

The Francois Baby House and the Chimczuk Museum are closed on Monday, their usual day off.

In Tecumseh, there will be no public transit on Family Day.
