LaSalle's Aquatic Centre to shut down this summer

It will take months to complete significant upgrades at the indoor aquatic centre at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex, so the Town of LaSalle will close it this summer.

The indoor pool, the hot tub, and the sauna will close Friday, June 26, until Monday, September 7.

"We will be increasing the amount of programming at the outdoor pool this summer. We expect that many of our patrons will take advantage of our programming at the outdoor pool," said Manager of Recreation, Patti Funaro. "We are fortunate to have both indoor and outdoor pools in our community so that we can still offer programming when one is closed."

The outdoor pool schedule will be released later this spring. Residents can also find it in the Summer Activity Guide, on LaSalle's municipal website, and its social media. Copies will be available at the front desk at the Vollmer Complex.

"It is unfortunate that we need to shut down the aquatic centre for the summer, but these are major upgrades," said Mark Masanovich, manager of facilities. "The Vollmer Complex opened in 2008, and these are the first major maintenance upgrades made in the aquatic centre. Once completed over the summer, we will see an improvement in the indoor environment and aesthetics of the facility."

Over the past few years, the aquatic centre has shut down every September for general cleaning and repairs. This year, the entire aquatic facility will also be painted, the HVAC system will be replaced, and the washrooms will be fixed up.

On Tuesday, September 8, the aquatic centre will reopen for Fall 2020 programming.
