Spitfires shoot down Frontenacs 6-5

The Windsor Spitfires edged the Kingston Frontenacs 6-5 in a close game on Friday.

The Frontenacs were first to score late in the first period, but Luke Boka and Cole Purboo both scored to give Windsor a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

Egor Afanasyev scored 1:54 into the second to extend Windsor's lead to 3-1, but Kingston responded with a goal of their own minutes after. The Spitfires were quick to answer back with Daniel D'Amico scoring at the 5:38 mark, but once again Kingston kept Windsor to a one-goal lead by scoring again with just under eight minutes left in the second.  Wyatt Johnston added another for Windsor 12:11 into the frame, but the back-and-forth between both teams continued with the Frontenacs scoring as well in the final minute of the period.

Kingston was finally able to tie the game with a goal 8:45 into the third, but Tyler Angle scored with just over four minutes left in the game to regain the lead for Windsor and ultimately the win.

Spitfires goaltender Xavier Medina made 22 saves out of 27 shots on net.

The Spitfires return to the ice on Sunday to take on the Ottawa 67's. The puck drops at 2 p.m. in Ottawa.
