Spitfires hammer Petes 7-3

The Windsor Spitfires made short work of the Peterborough Petes to win 7-3 in OHL action on Thursday.

The game remained scoreless for most of the first period but Luke Boka, Kyle McDonald and Cole Purboo all scored for the Spitfires in the final 1:30 of the frame.

Ruben Rafkin scored early in the second to extend Windsor's lead and Connor Corcoran added another for the Spitfires less than two minutes after. Egor Afanasyev scored 7:37 into the second to bring Windsor's lead to 6-0 heading into the third.

The Petes made it on the board with a goal just over a minute into the period, and they added another two before the 16-minute mark to cut Windsor's lead in half. However, Curtis Douglas scored with 58 seconds left on the clock to cap off the win for Windsor.

Spitfires goaltender Kari Piiroinen made 30 saves out of 33 shots on net.

The Spits are on the road again on Friday to take on the Kingston Frontenacs at 7 p.m.
