Mackenzie Tour stop raises money for Hospice

Organizers of the Windsor Championship are gearing up for the third year of the Mackenzie Tour PGA stop.

Director of Golf Operations at Ambassador Golf Course Adam Wagner said the first two years have been very successful.

"The feedback we get from the players, the visitors we get from the city generating $2 million in economic impact for the city is something we're very proud of, along with the donation to Hospice every year," said Wagner.

The tournament at Ambassador Golf Course raises money for the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County. In the last two years, the tournament has raised over $210,000 for the charity. The money goes toward the organization's in-home care.

"Allowing our clinical team to go out to meet the patient where they are, not only the patient but the families as well, to receive excellent palliative support in their home," said Colleen Reaume, executive director of the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.

The 2020 Windsor Championship will be held on July 13-19, 2020. Volunteer registration starts at the beginning of March.

The City of Windsor committed $120,000 over three years to help host the tournament.

This is the last year the Mackenzie Tour is committed to making a stop in Windsor. Wagner says they have started early discussions to host the tournament in future years.
