Riverside Marina operations changes hands

The Windsor Yacht Club will take over the operation of the Riverside Marina.

The club signed a 70-year lease with the Windsor Port Authority to take over the management and operation of the 104 slips.

"We're extending a welcoming hand to our Riverside friends at the Windsor Yacht Club, they are equal partners with us in this acquisition and we will treat them on an equal basis with the Windsor Yacht Club members," Commodore George McMahon at the Windsor Yacht Club.

The 2020 boating season will be status quo for all Riverside marina boaters. They will not be required to become a member of the Windsor Yacht Club in 2020. The club says it will review rules and procedures with interested parties at an information session on February 20, 2020.

Windsor Port Authority CEO Steve Salmons said they entered into this deal so they could focus on other priorities.

"Our core competency, our expertise in not running a marina, we do it and I hope we've served our customers well these last many years. But it became clear to us that our core competency was commercial development and their core competency was operating first-rate, first-class marina services," said Salmons.

In addition to the operation of the marina, the Windsor Yacht Club will be responsible for maintenance. McMahon says it is their intention to evaluate the docks that were underwater and usable in the 2019 season.

"It's a win-win situation for both us and the Riverside boaters that we get deck 4 and 5 up to speed. We want it in operation for the 2020 boating season," said McMahon.

All slips at the Windsor Yacht Club and the Riverside Marina are spoken for in the 2020 season.
