The owner of Magnotta Winery is using wine sales to help Lyme disease research in Canada.
While celebrating the opening of the Magnotta Winery location on Division Road CEO and founder Rossana Magnotta says she is grateful to expose another community to their series of philanthropic wines.
Magnotta says Lyme disease research is very near and dear to her because she lost her husband to the disease in 2009. She says the biggest thing she took away from her husband's struggle is that there are not adequate tests for Lyme disease in Canada.
"When I realized that I decided that I had to do something about it," said Magnotta. "I have the vehicle of a winery and what can I do as a winery person? I can engage my staff, family and how can I best get the message out there? I'm going to use my wine."
There are 16 wines in the Venture series and 50 cents from each sale benefits the G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab at the University of Guelph.
"We are aiming to improve a person’s capacity to enter a clinic and get a test that will accurately report a person's infection status after having been bitten by a tick. That will be a game-changer in the field of Lyme Disease," said Magnotta.
The new store is located at 650 Division Road. It offers over 180 different products. To mark the store opening, Magnotta Winery has created three limited-time wines exclusively for Windsor customers.
