Amherstburg teacher wins $100,000

An Amherstburg woman's trip to the store has made her $100,000 richer.

Shelley Lovell-Rees stopped by the Simcoe Variety store on Simcoe Street to purchase an Instant Wild Card scratch-off game ticket. She scratched it off while at the store and realized she had won the game's top prize of $100,000.

"I celebrated my win with the store owner," said Lovell-Rees, a teacher. "And I took a selfie with the screen that said ‘Big Winner.’"

Lovell-Rees stopped by the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to get her ticket verified and pick up her cheque. She said she had been playing lottery games for a long time and is going to share her good fortune with her family.

"I’ve been a fan of instant tickets for the past ten years," said Lovell-Rees. "Now, I can finally take care of my parents, who have given me so much. This win isn’t just for me. It’s for my family."

According to the OLG, Instant Wild Cards can be purchased for $5. The odds of winning any prize are one in 3.87.
