Windsor business struck by stolen heavy equipment

Windsor police say an east side pawnshop was struck overnight by a stolen front end loader.

Officers were called to the Avenue Swap Shop at Tecumseh Road East and Balfour Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. on Thursday, responding to a report of a tripped alarm. When they arrived, they noticed a front end loader that had been intentionally driven into the business, causing severe damage.

During the investigation, police learned that three people entered the building after the collision. A K-9 unit was deployed to search the business and surrounding area for clues, but it is believed the suspects fled before authorities arrived.

The front end loader used to hit the pawnshop was stolen from the area of Walker Road near Richmond Road and may have been driven south along Walker right after.

Police would like to speak to anyone who noticed any heavy equipment machine on the streets before 2 a.m. Thursday. Anyone who may have taken video of the front end loader before the collision is also asked to give police a call at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4350. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
