Snow on the way as another winter storm approaches

If your snowblower is not in good working condition, you might want to get it fixed.

After snow squall warnings were issued Thursday in London and Middlesex County, Environment Canada issued special weather statements for much of southwestern Ontario, including London and Middlesex, Elgin County, Oxford County, Windsor-Essex, and Chatham-Kent. The weather agency says snowfall amounts of 10-15 centimetres are expected.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng said the storm will move into the region sometime after midnight Friday.

"I expect just after midnight the snow will intensify, snow continuing into the mid-morning. Then it will switch over to rain," he said.

Cheng also said while we have been spoiled with above-average temperatures since Christmas, that is about to end.

"When everybody got out for Christmas Break, it's been warm. It got to what 14 C on Boxing Day?" he explained. "Temperatures just stayed warm ever since, and it's only now that we're getting some winter storms that will change the pattern a bit."

Daytime highs starting Sunday will be in the negative single-digits.

As for next week, Cheng predicted a relatively quiet first half of the week weather-wise before another system moves in on Thursday or Friday.
