South Walkerville robbery suspect faces 20 charges

Windsor police have identified a suspect in a series of convenience store hold-ups.

A total of three robberies took place between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday around the South Walkerville area. In each of the robberies, a man entered the stores with his face covered and brandished a weapon.

The first happened on Tecumseh Road East near Lincoln Road. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of merchandise and cash, then assaulted the employee, who suffered minor injuries.

Next, a convenience store on Walker Road near Ledyard Avenue was targeted. The man entered the store, took out what appeared to be a handgun, and robbed the store of merchandise and cash. A patron was also robbed at gunpoint.

A store on Ottawa Street near Windermere was then robbed. The employee and man engaged in an altercation and the man dropped two items, later identified as an orange flare gun and a black pellet gun. The man took off and was seen getting into the passenger side of a vehicle.

Richard Johnson, 35, of Windsor has been charged with 20 counts, including numerous armed robbery and firearm-related charges, and concealing his face with the intent to commit an offence. These charges have not been proven in court.

Police would like to commend the victims, witnesses, and the community for their help in quickly bringing this matter to a conclusion.
