Transit Windsor is advising riders to prepare for alternate transportation Monday due to a possible strike.

The Amalgamated Transit Union Local 616 gave the mandatory 72-hour strike notice to the transit provider on Thursday.  The union represents around 250 drivers, mechanics and support staff. The previous contract expired on September 30, 2019.

“Negotiations are ongoing in the hopes that a new agreement can be reached. However, Transit Windsor wanted to provide as much notice as possible to our riders in the event of a strike which could legally begin at 2 a.m. on Monday,” said Transit Windsor Executive Director Pat Delmore.

The strike will also affect special event buses, Tunnel Bus service, busing for city high schools, service in LaSalle, Essex, Kingsville and Leamington. All of these services will cease should a strike occur.

Riders are asked to monitor the City of Windsor website and social media for updated information.
