Windsor Regional Hospital scores 99.8%

Windsor Regional Hospital has received the highest accreditation possible.

After evaluating the hospital on over 2600 criteria, Accreditation Canada gave the hospital Accreditation with Exemplary Standing.

Hospital CEO David Musyj says the hospital achieved 99.8 per cent compliance.

"There's 2615 standards. Five were not met and, low and behold, it is a result of our physical structure. There's certain things we can't do because of the way we are set up," said Musyj.

Although the hospital was compliant, the report highlighted a risk to the organization of physician burn out. It recommends the hospital implement a plan for recruitment. Chief of Staff Dr. Wassim Saad indicated the hospital is well aware of the risk and is already working toward improving.

"We have a framework that's built in to try to improve academic research, recruitment, and retention and I've been speaking about this in terms of our professional staff, building a redundancy in the system so that we can survive physicians who are sick or ill or retire," said Saad.

Accreditation Canada evaluates the hospital every four years.
