Windsor City Council might approve an expansion at the Naval Monument in Dieppe Park.
Installing new interpretive panels will cost $25,000, money that was approved in the 2019 Capital Budget. Creating the granite panels could cost $35,000 for a total budget cost of $60,000.
The Naval monument was first erected and dedicated in May 1997, and in February, the Royal Canadian Naval Association asked for the second phase.
The panels will include text and illustrations describing the contributions and sacrifices of members of the Royal Canadian Navy in five periods; the First and Second World Wars, the Korean Conflict, the Cold War, and the war in Afghanistan.
The association would like the panels to go up immediately west of the existing monument, and is not expected to interfere with the use of walkways and the multi-use trail.
A report to City Council said, "Windsorites have played an important role on the world naval stage both in times of war and in times of peace. These panels will remind all who enjoy the riverfront of our experiences throughout the past 100 plus years."
