Demolition in Detroit shakes Windsor homes

You may have heard a loud explosion on Thursday morning. If you did, you do not need to worry.

The Detroit Free Press reported DTE Energy demolished an east Detroit power plant around 9 a.m.

DTE spokesman Eric Younan told BlackburnNews.com the blast may have been impressive, but was well within allowable safety parameters.  He said crews used an explosive felling process where the building is demolished in such a way, the debris falls in one direction.

The Conners Creek Power Plant, on Detroit's east side, is coming down to make way for Fiat Chrysler Automobile's new Jeep plant project.

The plant, which will create 5,000 new jobs, is under construction north of the DTE facility, but FCA will eventually store new Jeeps there.

The force of the blast was enough to shake some homes on the Windsor side of the Detroit River.
