Caesars Windsor lit red for sober driving awareness

The holiday season is well underway, and that means parties where drinking is likely taking place.

As part of raising awareness about driving sober, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Windsor and Essex County has teamed up with Caesars Windsor. The casino and entertainment complex is lighting its exterior with red lights through the first two weeks of December.

"We thank Caesars Windsor for their support in helping spread the message about safe and sober driving during the holiday season," said MADD Windsor and Essex County's Chaouki Hamka. "The lighting of Caesars Windsor in red is a reminder to drivers to never drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver, and a way of paying tribute to all the innocent victims of impaired driving."

The lights at Caesars Windsor support Project Red Ribbon, MADD's long-running holiday campaign. During the holiday season, red ribbons are distributed for display on vehicles, purses, keychains, backpacks and other things to show a commitment to drive sober at Christmas. When you are out celebrating this holiday season, MADD suggests you do the following:

  • Never get behind the wheel if you're impaired, or get inside a vehicle with an impaired driver
  • If you're planning to drink or use cannabis, think ahead. Designate a driver who will not drink, call a taxi or an Uber, take public transportation, or stay the night where you plan to celebrate
  • MADD has teamed up with local police services and the Ontario Provincial Police in the Campaign 911 initiative. If you spot an impaired driver on the roads, call 911. That call may save somebody's life.
Law enforcement agencies such as Windsor police and the OPP are also stepping up Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs to help keep impaired drivers off Windsor-Essex streets and highways.
