WRH receives donation for new mammography machine

Windsor Regional Hospital is a little closer to reaching its goal for a new 3D mammography machine thanks to the India Canada Association.

The association raised $8,500 for the $500,000 campaign through its latest gala dinner.

"The Windsor community needs better and top of the line, just like everyone else in Toronto and everywhere. We need good equipment, the best equipment, we deserve the best," said Purnima Kumar, president of the ICA.

The 3D digital mammography machine allows radiologists to get a more in-depth look at women's breasts.

"We can scan through the breast, it's not a 2D image it's like seeing images through the breast so that you can see the abnormalities that much better," said radiologist Dr. Winston Remsewak.

The machine is expected to arrive at Windsor Regional Hospital in January 2020. So far the hospital has raised $200,000 for the campaign.

The Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation is launching an electronic 50/50 campaign on Monday to help raise the rest of the funds needed for the campaign.
