New LaSalle public school named

The new public elementary school in LaSalle has a name.

The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name the school Legacy Oak Trail Public School at its board meeting on Tuesday.

The name was selected by a committee made up of board and school community members. The committee proposed the name because they said it "reflects the natural heritage of the LaSalle area, which is a Carolinian Forest zone, and incorporates a promise to be upheld by future actions of the school community to protect the environment and foster peace, hope and harmony."

The new kindergarten through Grade 8 school is set to replace the current Prince Andrew Public School sometime in the winter of the 2020-2021 school year. Construction of the school will start once the design and budget are approved by the Ministry of Education.

The new school will be built on the east side of Judy Recker Crescent and will be accessed from a new street to be constructed off Laurier Parkway. The Ministry of Education announced funding for the school in October 2016. It will accommodate approximately 420 students.
