Windsor woman heads to Abu Dhabi to represent Canada

Darian Primeau leaves on a plane from Toronto's Pearson International Airport Sunday night, and when she arrives in Abu Dhabi, it will be Tuesday.

That leaves little time to acclimatize before she competes in her first bout around 2 a.m. Wednesday as part of the team representing Canada at the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Competition.

Primeau, a Windsor native, will compete in the women's 52-kilogram category. There are 15 others in that category from countries like Brazil, Iraq and the United States.

She is one of 25 fighters from Canada competing in the United Arab Emirates, and this will be her first competition outside of North America.

Since BlackburnNews.com first spoke with Primeau, she has added lifting and condition training to her daily workout in preparation for her first world competition. That is in addition to the 20 hours a week the 24-year-old already trains.

Meanwhile, Primeau's partner, Justin Taveirne, will be making his comeback in mixed martial arts after a five-month hiatus in Windsor on December 6.

The Prospects Fighting Championship is a lightweight showdown between the Adrenaline Training Centre of London and the Maximum Training Centre of Windsor at the St. Denis Centre.
