Bright Lights Windsor going inclusive

Bright Lights Windsor promises to be bigger and more inclusive this year.

Organizers of the third annual holiday light festival at Jackson Park said they took suggestions from visitors to make the festival a better experience for everyone.

Monday nights will be "silent nights" to offer sensory-friendly time.

"The lights will be on, the sound will be muted, strobe elements will be paused and the light dulling glasses will be available for our friends to come and experience every Monday from 5:30-7:00," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The displays will be organized in themes this year including candy cane lane and Windsor Way. There will also be an Around the World display.

"I sure am proud to be the mayor of the city that's called the fourth most diverse city in Canada and we want to celebrate that diversity," said Dilkens. "We're going to have a Diwali lights installation, a Ramadan tree, Chinese lanterns, a large menorah, backlit shadow boxes highlighting flags representing the many communities that form our multicultural Windsor."

The festival will feature an expanded local artisan market on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. There will also be a limited food and beverage selection available on the weekends.

The opening ceremonies for the festival will be held on Friday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m. It will run every night from 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. until January 7, 2020.
