Holy Names to offer French immersion in 2020

Catholic school students in South Windsor who want to stay in French Immersion when they go to high school have a new option.

The Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board will offer the program at Holy Names Catholic High School in September 2020.

The board is currently recruiting teachers and developing courses.

"We are committed to ensuring that we have only the best available French Immersion teachers to be in front of our students next September," said Executive Superintendent of Education Emelda Byrne. "French Immersion has so many benefits for students, and we want to make sure this is the best possible experience for them."

The timing is right for the first cohort of French Immersion students at nearby Christ the King Catholic School who will graduate Grade 8 in 2021.

"I've heard from so many parents who have said they wanted to see this program made available at Holy Names, so it was a huge priority for us," said Board Chair Fulvio Valentinis.

Holy Names will host a Spirit Day on December 4 for students who are not enrolled in a Catholic board school. On December 5, grade students and their families can learn more about programs at the school at an open house.
