The third shift at the Windsor Assembly Plant will continue to operate until at least the end of March
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced in March 2019 that the third shift would be eliminated due to a change in the auto market. The elimination was supposed to happen in September but the deadline was extended.
Unifor Local 444 representatives announced on their Facebook page Wednesday that they have been told the shift will be extended until the end of the first quarter.
The company will review the business case for keeping the third shift on a month-to-month basis going forward.
About 1,500 jobs will be lost if the shift is eliminated. The union said it is still pushing for the company to rescind the third shift cancellation letter and it is working to find other ways to permanently keep the shift.
