Canadian veteran remembers comrades with song

A Canadian veteran of the war in Afghanistan remembers those who died in the conflict this Remembrance Day.

Ricky Pilon recorded "Journey is Over" when he returned in 2007.

"I don't actually sing or record songs," he admitted. "In a friend's basement, another soldier in Petawawa; he had a recording studio, so I asked him if I could. I actually wrote that song and recorded it that same day."

Pilon said he continues to suffer from PTSD related to his experiences in the war and wrote the song to commemorate friends he lost in Afghanistan and those who, like him, continue to suffer.

He was given a medical discharge from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2016.

Pilon called Remembrance Day a bittersweet time.

"You definitely want to remember everybody who passed on, but there's a lot of people here who are struggling as well," he said.

He lives in Trenton now.

His uncle, John Pilon, emailed the video of the song to BlackburnNews.com on Monday morning.
