Lewis takes part in parliament training

Newly elected MP for Essex Chris Lewis is in Ottawa this week learning the ins and outs of parliament.

"It's been a whirlwind but the people here they bend over backwards with regard to helping you to make you understand, to make the transition very smooth. They've been more than helpful," said Lewis.

He said he's spent the last two weeks trying to set up his home office and speaking to as many people as possible.

"Mornings are early, nights are very late but that's the job that I knew was coming and that's the way that we build these relationships just to make the riding of Essex that much stronger. It's all about relationship building, it's about meeting as many people as you possibly can in a short period of time," said Lewis.

Lewis said he's not setting any priorities until he has a chance to speak with many more stakeholders in the community.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to name his cabinet on November 20, 2019, however, there has been no indication of when the House of Commons will resume.
