Coats for Kids deadline extended

If you still have a gently-used winter coat to donate, you have time to drop it off at one of the collection sites.

Typically, the campaign ends October 31, but this year organizers have decided to extend it because of a late start.

They are being collected at any Master Cleaners location in Windsor, at Fletcher Cleaners, The Safety Village, Windsor-Essex CPR and First Aid Training, E3 Works, and at the Unemployed Help Centre on Cantelon Drive.

Cintas has been washing the coats and storing them ahead of the distribution date on November 9.

"Working as a collective, we will be able to help many children and adults this season by providing them with a winter coat," said CEO of the Unemployed Help Centre, June Muir.

Last year, 5,000 coats were collected to help low-income families and newcomers who have never experienced a Canadian winter before.

In September, the Windsor program put out an urgent call for help after many dry cleaners that had previously been involved in the drive closed.

Cintas stepped in to save the program in early October.

The program in Leamington was never in jeopardy.
