Fatal fire intentionally set

The Windsor Fire Service has determined a fire that claimed a life Thursday night was intentionally set.

The fire at an apartment on Ouellette Avenue near Hannah Street broke out around 8 p.m.

A man was found on the first floor and taken to hospital but later died of his injuries. Four other people have been displaced due to the fire.

The Windsor Fire Service and Ontario Fire Marshal investigation are now complete. The Windsor Police Service is continuing its investigation to determine if charges will be laid.

"Arson is the police charge, so if they charge then it's arson. That's up to police and that's why they are continuing with the investigation," said Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Lee. "But investigators have determined it to be an intentionally set fire."

The fire resulted in around $100,000 in damages.
