OPP make arrest in fatal hit and run in Leamington

The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a 23-year-old Windsor man after a vehicle struck an 85-year-old woman who was crossing the street in her wheelchair in Leamington.

Joyce Morency was hit on October 9 on Talbot Street East in front of the Great Canadian Superstore by a gold-coloured vehicle. The driver did not stay at the scene, and Morency later died of her injuries.

Police released photos of the vehicle and the suspect to the public and received tips that helped identify the car and the driver.

On Wednesday, police arrested Julian Helou and charged him with failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. The charge has not been proven in court, and he is scheduled to make a court appearance in Leamington on December 19.
