Shoplifter mistakes police vehicle for getaway car

A shoplifter was in for a surprise Monday when what she thought was her waiting getaway car was actually an unmarked police vehicle.

On Monday, LaSalle police officers were called to the Windsor Crossings Premium Outlets for a report of a female shoplifter.

The woman was described as a female wearing a pink "Hijab" and carrying a baby seat covered with a blanket. Police said the "Hijab" was actually a pink and white polka-dot pillowcase the woman was using to hide her identity. The baby carrier was empty and was used to conceal stolen merchandise.

LaSalle police sent an unmarked police vehicle and parked outside the store waiting for the suspect to exit. Upon leaving the store, police said the woman walked directly to the vehicle and tried to get into the back seat.

A 35-year-old woman has been arrested and is now charged with theft and possession of stolen property.
