Two fined for hunting on Sunday

Two people have been fined after hunting waterfowl in LaSalle on Sunday.

On Sunday morning, LaSalle police attended Senator Street near the Detroit River for a hunting complaint. Police found the vessel and the two occupants were fined under a LaSalle by-law that prohibits hunting in the town on Sundays.

LaSalle police are reminding hunters that the discharge of any gun or other firearm is prohibited within the town limits. The only exemptions are Fighting Island and on the Detroit River, but only when hunters are shooting away from land and towards the water.

A person can be fined up to $5,000 if charged with an offence under the town's bylaw. A person could also be charged criminally if a firearm is used in an unsafe or careless manner.
