GoFundMe campaign launched after family loses everything in fire

A Windsor family of six is staying in a hotel right now after they lost everything in a fire early Monday morning.

Joseph Antone, his wife, and their four daughters were visiting family on the Oneida First Nations reserve, outside London, when the fire broke out at a rental home on Lincoln Road between Seneca Street and Shepherd Street East.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help Antone recover some of the costs.

The fire caused $50,000 structural damage, while the loss of contents inside the home is valued at another $25,000.

Antone was also providing security on the First Nation after it had received threats online. He had received an alert on his smartphone from the security company hired to watch his home, and when he checked cameras inside his house, all he could see were flames.

The family's dog escaped the fire and was found a few kilometres away, according to the GoFundMe page.

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services spokesman John Lee said the fire started in the living room around 1:30 a.m. and caused a lot of smoke damage.

The cause is listed as undetermined, but not suspicious.
