Man sentenced to 3.5 years for manslaughter

Robert Legebow has been sentenced to 3.5 years for the manslaughter of Shawn Liddell.

Liddell died in October 2018 after he was pushed from a second-floor balcony during a fight with Legebow at the Ivy Rose hotel in Windsor.

Before Justice Micheline Rawlins delivered her sentence, Legebow offered an apology to the victim's family and asked for their forgiveness.

He also told the judge "you will never see me before this court again."

Rawlins told the court she chose the sentence because the defendant has no history of violence, he did not seek bail, there was no weapon used in the incident, and he feels remorse. The Crown was requesting a five-year prison sentence minus time served.

Legebow will be given credit for the time already served, so he will spend another 23 months in prison. He will be on probation for another three years following the prison sentence.
