Attempted murder charge laid in Devonshire Mall incident

Windsor police say a man tried to intentionally hit a woman with his vehicle in a local mall parking lot.

It happened shortly before 11 a.m. Monday in the east side parking lot of Devonshire Mall. Officers arrived on the scene to find an injured woman lying on the pavement near the entrance to the cinemas, being assisted by passersby. The victim was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where it was later reported that her injuries were life-threatening.

After speaking with witnesses, investigators determined that the woman was hit intentionally by a male driver who was still at the scene. The driver was taken into custody. Police are satisfied that the victim and the suspect are known to each other, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge, a public information officer.

WPS's Major Crimes Division and Accident Reconstruction Unit processed the scene, and the Major Crimes Division is interested in hearing from additional witnesses.

The man has been charged with one count of attempted murder. His name has not been released to protect the woman's identity, said Betteridge.

Anyone who was near the Devonshire Mall cinemas at the time of the incident and witnessed it is urged to call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700 ext. 4830. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS.
