Woman wanted after crashing into police cruisers

Windsor police are looking for a woman who stole a vehicle and then collided with two police cruisers while evading arrest.

On Sunday around 3:35 p.m., police were called to a property near the dead-end of Lauzon Road for a complaint of a car driving on the property without permission. While heading to the scene, police found out the vehicle was stolen.

When police arrived in marked vehicles, the stolen vehicle emerged from the tall grass on the property and drove toward the cruisers. The officers attempted to pull in front of the vehicle but the driver collided with both police cruisers and fled the scene.

The officers were able to identify a suspect and decided not to pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety.

The involved officers suffered minor injuries but did not require immediate medical attention. Both of the police cruisers were damaged.

The stolen car is a blue 2011 Hyundai Sonata four-door vehicle with the license plate CJLL 556. The vehicle should have fresh damage to both sides of the car.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 30-year-old Ashley Gelinas of Tecumseh. She is facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Police are looking for any information on the whereabouts of the suspect and the stolen vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police Service at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
