Community failing in affordable housing

Windsor and Essex County have been given a failing grade in affordable housing in the latest vital signs report.

The 2019 Vital Signs Report commissioned by the Windsor Essex Community Foundation asks residents to grade the community on 11 key issues to provide a snapshot of life.

Executive Director Lisa Kolody said this is the first time in seven years housing has received a failing grade.

"It was interesting for us to see that over time that has gotten worse instead of better and we know that housing costs have gone up but also its around looking for opportunities for assisted living," said Kolody.

Around 1800 people in Windsor and Essex County participated in the survey this year.

"Overall, people are generally positive about our community but they do recognize there's room for improvement. So the scores are 'Cs' which is ok but we could do better," said Kolody.

According to Kolody, many local organizations use this data to plan programming, services and grant opportunities.
