Coats for Kids in Windsor saved

The Unemployed Help Centre says its Coats for Kids program is safe after Cintas came through for the program.

The company cleans professional uniforms.

"Cintas is going to wash and dry approximately 5,000 coats for this year's campaign in November," said June Muir, the CEO at the Unemployed Help Centre.

The company is also donating hangers and 400 clear plastic bags.

The centre put out an urgent call for help last month for a warehouse or other large space to keep the coats, money to wash them, and collection sites. In the past, it had used dry cleaners, but many have closed.

Residents across Windsor-Essex are urged to clean out the closets and bring gently-used coats to any collection site in the region.

Coats can be dropped off at any Master Cleaners location, Fletcher Cleaners, Unemployed Help Centre, The Safety Village, Windsor-Essex CPR and First Aid Training, and E3 Works.

The coats help not only low-income families, but many newcomers who arrive in Canada never having experienced winter before.

They will be distributed on November 9.

The program in Leamington was never in jeopardy.
