Windsor ties October 1 heat record

It sure didn't feel like fall in Windsor.

Windsor did not break a heat record Tuesday for October 1, but it tied the record which has held since 1952. According to Environment Canada, the temperature reading for Windsor Airport at 5 p.m. Tuesday was 30 C, or 86 F.

Environment Canada meteorologist Gerald Cheng told BlackburnNews.com Monday that the unusual weather pattern snuck up through Ontario from the U.S.

"For people in southwestern Ontario, well what a treat with temperatures almost flirting with 30," said Cheng.

Other areas of the region did see record heat on Tuesday. Chatham-Kent recorded a 30.6 C reading at 1 p.m., breaking the record of 30 C. In London, the high of 28.9 C broke the record of 28.1 C set in 2002.

The weather will feel like being on a roller coaster across Windsor-Essex for the rest of the week. The forecast calls for a cooling trend accompanied by the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday, with some clearing on Friday. Temperature highs for Wednesday and Thursday will top out at 22 C, but only reach 13 C on Friday. Lows through the rest of the week will slide to as cool as 8 C Friday night.

Environment Canada said the average high in Windsor for this time of year is 19.3 C.
